I will start by saying, I have fallen utterly head over heels for the NYX Soft Matte lip creams.  I literally adore everything about them, from their price tag to their shade range, their consistency to their shade names.  The only thing I'm left asking myself is why didn't I try them sooner?

I was recently browsing the Boots website and I decided to pick up the NYX Prismatic eyeshadow in 'Liquid Gold' and I convinced myself that if I got along with it, I would try more from their range.  I was totally sold on their eyeshadow (I'm sure I will review this soon...) and then decided to move onto their lip products.  I went for their lip creams as I always like a thick, creamy lipstick/lip product and the collection caught my eye.

The first lip cream that I tried was in the shade 'Stockholm', an almost brown-toned nude with a hint of pink.  It's a borderline '90s shade', which I would liken to the 'Kylie Jenner' look that most us of are still swooning over.  The product itself has a slightly chalky formulation and the colour is buildable.  I never choose to wear a lipliner with any of my lip products and I find that the NYX lip creams can be applied neatly without one.

I decided I needed to add another to my collection and the next lip cream I purchased was in the shade 'Morocco', completely at the other end of the spectrum with it's orangey/red colouring.  The formulation of the two shades is the same, chalky and thick, with a subtle cocoa-buttery scent.  I also find with both shades that I can go for the majority of the morning/afternoon without having to reapply.  The only thing that I would advise is that as the product is quite chalky in texture, it's best to use a lip scrub first as the product otherwise tends to settle in the creases of your lips; I used my Lush lip scrub before application in the above photos and I feel that you can still see where the product has gathered in the cracks of my lips, even after using around 3 coats of each lip cream to build up the colour/coverage.

That being said, I think that is a small price to pay for what is otherwise an amazing product.  I've already ordered my third lip cream, this time in the shade 'Istanbul', a little more pink-toned than 'Stockholm', making it more of an everyday shade.  At £5.50 a go, I think I will be adding a lot more of these to my collection in the next few weeks.

Have you tried any of the NYX lip creams? Which shades do you love and if not, which shades would you look to buy?

  1. I've been meaning to try these out for ages, especially that Stockholm shade!

    1. You totally should! I would love to hear your thoughts if you give them a whirl :) x
