BrushWorks Mini Brush Set Review

BrushWorks Mini Brush Set Review
Something that a beauty blogger can never have enough of has to be makeup brushes. When I was recently given the opportunity to try out BrushWorks' Mini Brush Set*, of course I rose to the chance.  I personally find that makeup brushes are something I just cannot get by without during my day-to-day makeup routine; most mornings, I am applying my makeup in somewhat of a rush, and frankly don't have time to use a beauty blender to perfect my foundation and concealer. Makeup brushes just speed things up for me and the more of them in my collection, the merrier.

The BrushWorks brush set that I received retails at £12.99, which is highly affordable in my opinion in comparison to a lot of other makeup brush brands on the market at the moment. The set itself comes with a multi-tasking brush (the all-rounder), powder brush, concealer brush and eye shading brush. Admittedly, I was most excited about the concealer brush and eye shading brush as I will most likely end up using the pair of them for my eye products. I love having a larger collection of brushes to use on my eye area as it means I can be a lot more creative with applying different eyeshadow colours throughout the week, without the risk of mixing shades that shouldn't go together, before giving all of my brushes a proper cleanse on a Sunday afternoon.

The brushes themselves are very soft during use and they are also fairly small in size; this brush set would be an excellent kit to take away if you were a frequent traveller and didn't particularly want to take your whole brush collection with you during even trip. This set offers just what you would need in a minimal kit on a daily basis to cover all aspects of your makeup application and their sizing would make them easy to pack when travelling too.

Naturally, as the price point is lower than that of other brands, there will be a few differences in the quality of the products. I did notice that there were a few stray brush strands which poked out above the others in two of the brushes but this is something that I think you could overlook somewhat for an entry level brush set. I think that this set would be perfect for either travelling, which I've touched upon, or for ladies that are new to makeup application, perhaps even for everyday school/college makeup to get the gist of using brushes to apply each product.

The brushes do exactly what they advertise and for the price point, it is a great little entry level makeup brush kit. There are alternative brush sets on the market that I prefer the physical appearance of, what with rose gold metal detailing and branding, however for a kit to use on the go, I think this is a great find and serves its purpose.

Top 3 Fall Lipsticks

Top 3 Lipsticks for Fall
Move over Spring/Summer with your Pink and Coral hues. It's time for the Burgundy, Purple and Red tones to make a comeback.

I must admit, I couldn't wait for the colder weather to make a reappearance so I could go back to wearing darker lipsticks again. I have a few old faithfuls that go back into my A/W makeup bag every year with the change in seasons and although I do like to pick up new makeup items, these lipstick shades are just too good not to whip back out. Let me take you through my top 3 Fall lipsticks...

MAC Plumful Lipstick Swatch
MAC Plumful Lipstick Swatch
MAC 'Plumful' is the perfect transitional shade to take you from Summer to Autumn. If you're not ready yet to go for a bold Purple toned lipstick or a rich Burgundy, this may be the shade for you. It's a much more muted 'grunge' Autumn colour in my opinion. It is, like the name implies, a plum shade. It's also much more wearable for everyday than going straight in for the bolder cherry shades that adorn the makeup counters at this time of year. Not only do I love the shade, I also find the formula to be rich, so it isn't drying on my lips, particularly when they can become chapped in the colder weather. The only thing I would suggest is that a lipliner will help a lot with the application; as it is quite a rich formula, a lipliner would help to prevent any bleeding from the colour and to stop it budging throughout the day. For reference, all of these swatches have been taken without a lipliner.

Rimmel Lasting Finish Kate Moss Lipstick 30

Admittedly, this is a shade that I forget I own until the colder months come around. The Rimmel Lasting Finish with Kate Moss range is such a great collection for the price point. At around a third of the price of the MAC lipsticks, the colour range and lasting power of the Kate Moss collection is just as good. I find this particular lipstick far easier to apply than the likes of the MAC lipsticks; there is minimal colour-bleeding and as the product is less 'fluid' on application, it is a lot easier to achieve a sharp outline without needing to use a lipliner. Out of all 3 lipsticks in this post, I find shade '30' from the Kate Moss range to be the most complimentary on my skin when I haven't tanned. It is the perfect Burgundy-toned lipstick at a highstreet price.

MAC Hang-Up Lipstick Swatch

Lastly in my top 3, but by no means least, comes 'Hang-Up' by MAC; this was one of the shades that was on my wishlist for so long when I first started to follow blogs and Youtube videos. It was just one of those shades that screamed A/W and one that I kept seeing on other bloggers & Youtubers too. Hang-Up was the first MAC lipstick that I owned and it really is the main lipstick that comes to mind when I think of makeup for this time of year. As it is a Cremesheen lipstick, it is subsequently creamy on application and for this reason, it can tend to bleed quite a bit, but because I love the shade so much, it's something I can completely overlook. Hang-Up is such a rich, berry-toned colour, perfect for pulling together a wintery look and adding a 'grunge' feel too. If you're looking for one staple lipstick for the colder seasons, this would be the one that I would recommend.

What are your favourite lipsticks to wear at this time of year? If lipsticks aren't your thing, what other liquid lipsticks or lipliners would you recommend?

Autumn/Winter Favourites

Autumn Winter Favourites
Lush Halloween Collection 2016
Yankee Cinnamon Stick Review
Autumn Yankee Candle Reviews
Witches Brew Yankee Candle Review
Zoella Body Mist Collection Review
Zella Bake My Day Body Mist Review
I have to start by saying, I'm genuinely surprised how long it has taken me to put this post up. In real life and on social media, I have done nothing but ramble on about how much I love this time of year and have also been constantly posting photos of candles and Starbucks pumpkin spice lattes whilst wearing Ugg boots. I know, I know, I'm a walking stereotype. I'm kind of okay with that too.

Naturally I have been splurging on new homeware and clothing/beauty items with the change in seasons and I've whittled together a few of my recent favourites for Autumn/Winter.

LUSH HALLOWEEN COLLECTION 2016
Oh boy, this has to be one of the main reasons I was rooting for payday last month. I love Lush and I love Halloween, so a mini haul from their Halloween collection just had to be done. I tried out their 'Sparkly Pumpkin' last Autumn and it quickly became one of my firm favourite Lush products that I had ever tried; the Sparkly Pumpkin is caked in glitter and oozes with cinnamon fragrance, so what's not to love? Well, I guess it does make your bathwater look an awkward shade of yellow, but I think we can all see past that. In my mini haul, along with the Sparkly Pumpkin, I also picked up their 'Pumpkin' bath bomb, 'Boo' bath melt and 'Lord of Misrule' bath bomb. As much as I can't wait to use them all in baths during the colder nights, I think us bloggers all know, they make for great Instagram photos too. Am I right ladies?

YANKEE CANDLES
I am so into all of the fragrances that take over the shops at this time of year; I love all of the cinnamon, orange, vanilla and spice scents. I was recently gifted two Yankee Candles, one of them being Cinnamon Stick and the latter being Witches Brew from their Halloween range. I have been burning both of them non-stop and our flat has smelt like a combination of cinnamon and apples most days. Not only do they both smell delicious, they also look great on the counters and our coffee table too. I'm already itching to pick up a few more scents from the Halloween range before it gets too late.

ZOELLA SECRET SCENTA MINI MIST SET
During the summertime, I picked up Zoe's 'Sweet Inspirations' body mist when her new line launched, and I literally ended up wearing it every day as my go-to fragrance because I loved the scent of it so much. As you will all by now know, her Christmas line has launched, following her incredible press days at 'The Apartment'. The main product from the collection that I couldn't wait to get my hands on was her 'Bake My Day' body mist. Like with cinnamon, gingerbread is also one of my favourite scents at this time of year and given how impressed I had been with her Sweet Inspirations body mist, I was so excited for this release. As the body lotion & body mist set for the Bake My Day scent had already sold out on Superdrug when I came to place my order, I decided to pick up the Secret Scenta Mini Mist Set instead, also as an excuse to try her original body mists, 'Blissful Mistful' and 'Let's Spritz'. When my set arrived, I immediately fell in love with the bottle packaging and the colourful matching metallic lids too. The collection now has pride of place on my shelves and I have been wearing the Bake My Day mist most days for a playful take on an Autumn/Winter fragrance.

PRIMARK SCARVES
As you can probably by now tell, I have picked up a few new knitwear items (aka, photo backdrops). I can often find Primark to be very hit and miss. I have stopped picking up clothes from Primark as I just find that they don't last well, particularly after several washes, so I limit myself to only picking up loungewear, cosy socks or accessories, and homeware when I do decide to pay a trip. I popped into my local store last week and I was so impressed this time with their scarf range. Every Autumn, I end up picking up a new tartan scarf to see me through the colder months, and this year, Primark's range fit the bill just perfectly. I stumbled upon a Blue/Brown/burnt Orange tartan scarf and a mustard Yellow knitted one too. I love to throw these tones into the mix to brighten up my wardrobe at this time of year and both scarves came to just £10 in total. I'm already wanting to go back and pick up their Burgundy and White tartan scarf that I spotted too. Let's face it, that will probably be appearing as a backdrop in a few weeks too. Watch this space.

What are you favourite items that you have picked up for Autumn/Winter?

Kiehls Skincare Routine Review
Well hello there. It's been a pretty darn long time since I last blogged but it sure feels good to be back.  If you're still reading this, thank you for sticking with me during my little Summer hiatus.  Although I may have been hiding away from the blogging front, by no means have I been missing out on giving my newest beauty and skincare purchases and samples a good run for their money.

Following a Twitter chat with Kiehl's, I received the most lovely parcel from them, containing the perfect combination of facial skincare products to complete a morning and evening routine.  Like with all skincare products I use, I like to fully put each item to the test (particularly when tackling my acne-prone skin) before sharing my thoughts on them.
